REMINGTON PARK DERBY - Saturday
The $203,509 Remington Park Derby features a solid group of 3-year-olds, all with talent and one of them with the great fortune to even be competing.

View Me Flying was the top qualifier for the 400-yard race, easily winning the first of three trials for the derby on April 3 while establishing the best time of 20.013 seconds under Ricky Ramirez. A 3-year-old New Mexico-bred colt, owned by Sara Margaret Hamilton of Lexington, Ky. and trained by Russell Harris, View Me Flying almost never saw the racetrack, let alone the other side of a severe storm during his youth.

While stabled at Hamilton’s farm in Kentucky, View Me Flying survived a severe storm that included enough straight-line wind to blow the barn down in which he was housed. Hamilton and a crew of rescuers had to cut the debris away to find her horses, including View Me Flying, who escaped miraculously unscathed from the incident. The storm left him with no injuries but did tag him with a name as he lived through the force of nature that could have moved him helplessly through the air as it did the barn that was his home.

View Me Flying has matured into a solid 3-year-old to head the cast for Saturday’s derby. The complete field, with qualifying times, is: View Me Flying, :20.013; King Brimmerton, :20.016; Lightning Round, :20.163; Stone Eyed Candy, :20.282; Rarely Makes It Home, :20.292; Spit Curl Diva, winner of last month’s Oklahoma Derby, :20.329; Cuz Eye Said, :20.359; Vrrroom, :20.365; Eyesa Love Candy, :20.370 and Deep In The South, :20.378
